A BLACK BELT INTERNATIONAL CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE
Sunday 2 August 2009 was the third time that the Kaizen Squad had travelled down
to the FEKO National Squad training in Wolverhampton. This time Jodie, Richard and
Claire murray attended.
The training was once again superb with Jodie and Richard concentrating on Kumite
and Claire concentrating on both Kata and Kumite. At the end of training we were,
once again, really proud when Jodie was selected by Dr Johnson to represent FEKO
at the forthcoming Carlow International Championships. We now have two of our squad
members on the FEKO National Squad.
Our red nose events were held on Wednesday 11 March 2009 at West Leeds Dojo and Friday 13 March 2009 at East Leeds Dojo where many of our Karateka and Kickboxing students dressed up in pyjamas, a wig, a hat or all three. It was very difficult to take the training seriously - performing kata while dressed ready for bed doesn’t have the same impact!
Again though, this showed the level of support and commitment from Kaizen students for supporting worthwhile causes or just getting into the swing of things.

Over the weekend 28/29 March 2009 Sensei Reece travelled to Kysohi O’Connor’s dojo in London to train as an Instructor in the Urban Defensive System Instructor.
The course was superb yet very intensive focusing on a range of unpleasant yet necessary self defensive techniques. Kyoshi’s relaxed style of teaching encouraged everyone to grasp the essentials of this system and practise under effective supervision.
Following the first day, a group enjoyed an Indian meal at a local restaurant.
On the second day Sensei also took the opportunity to expand his Kobudo training particularly in the use of the nunte bo.
BLACK BELT INTERNATIONAL AWARDS 2009
On Saturday 28 November 2009 a small group from Kaizen attended the BBI Awards held at the Hilton Hotel, Bradford. The event started with a short demonstration followed by a meal and the awards ceremony. Sensei received an award for contribution to martial arts but the most important awards were:
Harry Shires: Student of the Year
Karen England: Special Award
Lorraine Ritchie: Special Award
